How to Save Money When Shopping Ethical & Eco Brands

A lot of people think that purchasing ethically made and sustainable products costs more money.

Sometimes this is true, but as someone who began their conscious consumerism journey in college, I had to be frugal.

Finding budget friendly hacks to shop brands that share my values is something I’ve enjoyed over the years. I’m excited to share these tips and tricks with you in the hopes of saving you money when you shop consciously.

Shop Off Season Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fashion can definitely be on the pricey side, but not without reason. This is typically due to the higher quality of materials and fair labor costs. However, I like to shop off season in order to save money.

A lot of clothing brands put their winter clothes on sale in summer and vice versa. Shop the off season sales and then you have a gift to yourself in the closet for next season.

Invest in High Quality Products

By investing in higher quality products, you’re less likely to have to replace the items. This can save you money in the long run. Ever since I started buying sustainable fashion, I haven’t had to replace my clothes as often.

Same goes with linens, furniture, home goods, and other zero waste swaps. Sometimes paying for a quality product can be good for your wallet AND the environment.

Buy Reusable Products

On my journey towards lower waste living, I’ve seen how certain zero waste swaps can knock certain items off your grocery list for good. For example, ever since I started buying beeswax wrap and reusable silicon bags, I no longer buy plastic wrap for storing food.

Instead of having to replace my plastic wrap when it runs out, I just use the reusable swaps I’ve already purchased.

Sign Up for E-mail Lists

Consider signing up for the e-mail list of ethical or eco-friendly brands you love. Some brands offer an upfront discount and then you’ll be notified of further sales.

Shop the Sales

Socially responsible brands have sales too! Pay attention to e-mails and social media to know when the sales are.

Shop Secondhand Ethical Fashion

I use Poshmark to shop certain ethical fashion brands I already know my size in and love. This is a great way to find sustainable fashion at a discounted price.
