7 Plastic Free July Activities to Do with Friends

Here is a list of fun ways to spend quality time with your friends and get them excited about Plastic Free July.

Shop at a Zero Waste Store

Try to find a bulk zero waste store in your city and explore this new shop. Don’t forget to take your mason jars, reusable produce bags, and reusable grocery bags.

This is a fun opportunity to support a sustainable small business in your neighborhood.

If you can’t find any low waste stores in your area, check out our list of the best online zero waste stores to shop!

Host a Plastic Free Party

Plan a plastic free party with your besties! Choose reusable and compostable dinnerware, utensils, and cups. This is a fun opportunity for everyone to share their low waste living tips, bring a dish to share, and educate your friends on plastic free living.

Host a Sustainable Book Club

Host a book club with your friends during the month of July. This can be a great chance to explore topics of sustainability like waste reduction and plastic free living.

A few sustainable living books I’ve enjoyed and encourage you to consider Give a Shit: Do Good. Live Better. Save the Planet., Simply Sustainable, Consumed, Living without Plastic, & Sustainable Fashion for Dummies.

Grab Coffee with a Friend in Reusable Mugs

No need for coffee cups with plastic. Head to your favorite coffee shop with your reusable mug! Even better for the environment if the coffee shop is near your house and you can walk.

Enjoy the summer weather, spend quality time with a dear friend, and sip some delicious coffee.

Shop for groceries at the Farmer’s Market

Head to the farmer’s market to try and find some plastic free groceries. I know when I shop at my local farmers markets they are WAY more conscious on how produce is packaged.

At the grocery store so many produce items come in plastic packaging, but at the farmers market they have a lot of compostable packaging options and it’s easy to bring your own reusable produce bags to stock up.

Pack a Plastic Free Picnic

Grab your friends and plan a plastic free picnic! This is an eco-friendly activity to spend quality time together and encourage people to get creative with plastic free food storage.

Everyone can bring a dish in a glass container and you can eat on compostable plates like Repurpose with compostable utensils. Head to the park, spread out a blanket, and enjoy your sustainable meal together.

Plan a Natural Clothing Fashion Show with Your Friends

Sadly, there is a lot of plastic in synthetic clothing. Encourage your friends to embrace natural fabrics with a natural clothing fashion show.

You can show off the sustainable pieces in your closet made with natural fibers and educate your friends on plastics in the fashion industry.
