Due to some intolerances and inflammation issues I’ve been eating a grain free diet for about a year. My diet is pretty similar to the keto diet, so I was excited to learn Green Chef has keto meal kits.

Green Chef Review
My husband and I were paying customers on the Keto + Paleo plan for two months to give it a try. Here are some of the meals we received and thoughts.
Week 1 Green Chef Keto Meals
The first meal we had was Blackened Tilapia with a chipotle aioli, lime, roasted veggies, and guacamole. We weren't huge fans of this meal.
We felt like the roasted veggies didn't pair well with the guacamole and the sauce on the fish.
Next we tried Steak with Balsamic Mushrooms and a Kale Salad...again we felt like this meal was just okay.
Finally, we has the Pan Roasted Cotija Chicken on top of cabbage. This one was a winner we felt like everything in the meal went well together, it was filling and easy to make.
Week 2 Green Chef Menu
Week two we have Pecan Crusten Chicken with creamy mashed butternut squash and green beans.
This recipe was a winner as it was filling, tasted yummy, and was easy to cook. We then had Middle Eastern Beef Bowls made with cauliflower rice, feta, almonds, and a sauce.
We were impressed by this one too with unique flavors and easy assembly.
We also had Dukkah-Spiced Pork with cauliflower rice and roasted red pepper and this was not one of our favorites. We felt like the sauce did not go with the rest of the seasonings.
Week 3 Keto Green Chef Menu
During our third week we had Cajun Blackened Chicken with Creoole Djionnaise, stuffed squash and green beans.
Again we felt like the sauce didn't really go with the rest of the seasonings and were not really fans of this meal.
We then had Cumin Garlic Pork Chops with yellow squash, cabbage, dried figs, almonds, and a lemon yogurt sauce...and again we felt like the spices and sauces did not pair well together.
Finally, we had Creamy Chicken Alfredo made with spaghetti squash noodles, peas, and parmesan cheese. This meal was a winner.
This meal was actually my favorite out of the entire two months we subscribed.
As this was only the recipes from our first month we definitely had a few more.
Some of our other favorite recipes included the Beef Patties with Truffle Aioli and the Mediterranean Chicken.
Is Green Chef Worth It?
As someone who has been cooking keto style meals for a while now, I know just how good keto food can be and in my opinion Green Chef didn't hit the mark for my personal taste buds.
For me personally, I don't think it's worth the money as I can go to the store to purchase organic foods and make better tasting meals at a lower price.
However, I do think Green Chef's keto meal plans can be a good option if you have a busy week and need some quick keto meals.
The meals were easy and quick to cook. I might use Green Chef every once in a while, but a consistent Green Chef subscription isn't for me.
What I Like About Green Chef Meal Kits
I appreciate that they are trying to make healthy eating a bit easier
I sincerely appreciate that they have clean meal plans for customers on special diets such as paleo, keto, gluten-free diet, and plant-based as most meal services do not have this.
Organic ingredients
Easy recipes that take some of the stress out of keto meal prep
Eco-friendly packaging and off-setting carbon footprint
Reduces the amount of trips to the grocery store
Fresh ingredients, specifically the produce
The app allowed for easy meal management
What I Don't Like About Green Chef
Lacking meal plan options. I didn't feel like the meals had a lot of variety on their menus.
Often times I felt like the sauces and spices of the keto meals did not pair well together
No option to customize protein as with other meal delivery kits you can choose the type of meat you'd like
No organic, grass-fed meats. The only organic items are eggs and produce.
There is not free shipping
Is Green Chef Sustainable?
Yes, I would say Green Chef is one of the most sustainable meal kit companies.
I think it's great that this meal kit is making it easier for more people to take part in sustainable eating and healthy meal subscriptions.
Their eco-friendly packaging consists of paper bags, insulation made with plant based materials and non-toxic cold packs. They do have a great guide on their website on how to responsibly dispose of or recycle each item in their sustainable packaging.
Encourage consumers to reduce food waste by using pre-portioned ingredients.
According to the University of Michigan this meal kit's carbon footprint is 25% lower than meals made from store bought groceries due to pre-portioned ingredients and their streamlined supply chain.
This meal kit uses organic ingredients for their produce and eggs. While their meats claim high animal welfare standards there is not much detail on what that means. I hope to see more organic and grass fed meat options from Green Chef in the future as more sustainable ingredients.
Green Chef offsets 100% of its direct carbon emissions including operations, travel, and shipping to customers. They also offset the plastic packaging within each box.
